چکیده

The discovery of biopigments has received considerable attention from the industrial sector, mainly for potential applications as novel molecules with biological activity, in cosmetics or if aquaculture food supplements. main objective this study was to increase production carotenoid pigments a naturally pigmented yeast by subjecting various cellular stresses using design experiments. fungal strain Rhodotorula mucilaginosa AJB01 isolated sample collected Barranquilla, Colombia, and one produced ?-carotene. This subjected stress conditions, including osmotic different salts, physical ultraviolet (UV) light, light photoperiods. optimal growth conditions were determined be 1 min UV 0.5 mg/L magnesium sulfate, an 18:6 h light/dark period, which resulted yield 118.3 µg per gram yeast.

Improving carotenoid pigments production in Rhodotorula mucilaginosa using UV irradiation

Rhodotorula yeasts were isolated from various local sources in Damascus, Syria, during 2012 and 2013. Fifty isolates (23 from leaves trees, 13 from different soils, 6 from different meats, 6 from dairy products, 1 pickle and 1 traditional sweet) were identified using API 20C AUX system. Isolated yeasts were classified into three Rhodotorula species: R. mucilaginosa, R. glutinis and R. minuta re...

Femoral prosthesis infection by Rhodotorula mucilaginosa.

This case report is a case history of a femoral prosthesis infection caused by Rhodotorula mucilaginosa in a human immunodeficiency virus patient. Though the pathogenicity of this organism for bone tissue has been previously reported, this is the first reported case of an orthopedic prosthesis infection by this species of the genus Rhodotorula.

Genetic analysis of D-xylose metabolism by endophytic yeast strains of Rhodotorula graminis and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa

Two novel endophytic yeast strains, WP1 and PTD3, isolated from within the stems of poplar (Populus) trees, were genetically characterized with respect to their xylose metabolism genes. These two strains, belonging to the species Rhodotorula graminis and R. mucilaginosa, respectively, utilize both hexose and pentose sugars, including the common plant pentose sugar, D-xylose. The xylose reductas...

Catheter-Associated Rhodotorula mucilaginosa Fungemia in an Immunocompetent Host

Rhodotorula species live in the environment, but can also colonize human epithelium, as well as respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts. Reports of infection, especially in the past 2 decades, have noted increasing numbers of Rhodotorula infections, particularly in immunocompromised hosts, leading it to be considered emerging opportunistic pathogen. The major risk factors for infection were pr...

Statistical optimisation of cell growth and carotenoid production by rhodotorula mucilaginosa

Sequential statistical methods were used to maximise carotenoid production by a strain of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, isolated from the Brazilian ecosystem. Initially, a factorial 2(5-1) experimental design was used, and the variables were pH and the levels of glucose, yeast extract, MgSO4.7H2O and KH2PO4. The nitrogen source (yeast extract) was the most important variable in enhancing carotenoid...
